Jenna is an Olympian11/07/2016
11th July 2016 – After 10 days of intense and high quality competition at the US Olympic Trials, Jenna has earned her place on the Olympic Team and will represent Team USA in Rio.
The US trials are renowned for being amongst the toughest in the world, especially in the sprint events and with the first three past the post system in operation there is literally no room for error.
Jenna’s campaign began in the 100m as she negotiated her way into the final with victories in both her heat and semi-final running times of 10.81 seconds and 10.86 seconds. The level of performance across the field in the final was exceptional and Jenna placed fifth in 10.96 seconds and was rewarded with a place in the 4x100m squad. However, her work was far from done.
Jenna was also entered in the 200m and she again won her heat in 22.72 seconds. Progress to the final was secured with another semi-final victory, this time in 22.68 seconds.
Running at her beloved Hayward Field, the scene for so many of her successes to date, with numerous family, friends, and supporters in the stands, Jenna stood behind her blocks ready for the 200m final. Jenna ran a great bend and executed well up the straight so with 190m run looked safe in third place. Just metres from the finish though Jenna stumbled and literally fell across the line with the fast finishing Alyson Felix alongside. Fortunately for all those watching, cheering, and supporting the judges did not take long to split the two and Jenna was announced as third in 22.53 seconds and will go to Rio to contest both the 200m and 4x100m events.
